What is AI?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science. It is essentially teaching a computer how to mimic thinking and decision making like a human. Our goal is to create ‘thinking’ machines that can help us perform complex tasks faster and more efficiently. AI systems can analyze a lot of data, identify patterns, and make recommendations for us. Imagine a computer that can solve puzzles, recognize pictures, and even carry on an interesting conversation with people.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Why Should I Study AI?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been around since the 1950s and, until recently, it was only popular in movies and other forms of electronic entertainment. Today, AI is finding its way into our personal and professional lives. Much like electricity, it may soon be a core part of most things we do. Learning how AI works, how to get the most out of it, and maybe even program it, can help enrich our personal lives and potentially open new doors in our professional paths.

How are Businesses Using AI?

Businesses of all types and sizes are increasingly adopting AI tools and systems to enhance their efficiencies, improve their decision-making, and hopefully gain a competitive edge. Some areas where AI is being used in business may include: customer service, marketing, data analysis, business insights and site maintenance, supply demand forecasting, talent acquisition, cybersecurity, sales and customer behavior insights, product development and quality assurance, disease prediction, personalized treatment recommendations, and operational automation.

Curriculum Overview

This program is designed to provide insights into Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies, tools, and techniques. These insights can empower individuals and organizations to leverage AI and ML tools and technologies to strengthen implementations of data science and technological innovation. The program covers concepts of artificial intelligence, machine learning, AI in business, data science, AI in the cloud, modern applications of AI, and the future of AI. By the end of this program, students should have a broad understanding of AI and ML learning and how they impact people and organizations.

Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals Certificate Program

Intro to Programming Fundamentals

Our Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals Certificate program is designed to give you flexibility in your study with instructor support and guidance. The program includes six courses total and each course is 4.5 quarter credit hours, which means you can earn up to a total of 27 quarter credit hours upon program completion. Each course is 5-weeks in length and can be taken independently or with a second course allowing you to complete the program in as little as 15 weeks.

Basic Front-End Development

In this course, you will explore the foundation of web development and the fundamental skills necessary to design, layout, and build the “front end” of a functioning website and/or application. You will be introduced to topics including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with hands-on activities of programming, styling, and adding interactions to a webpage and/or project. You will be expected to begin a portfolio project.

Basic Back-End Development

In this course, you will study back-end web development and how one uses JavaScript frameworks such as Node.js. Back-end development consists of server-side development work, building full-stack web applications with databases, and deploying applications to the cloud.

Front-End Development

In this course, you will be introduced to how one solves complex programmatic problems and builds full-stack web applications. You will explore topics including JavaScript frameworks such as React.

Software Development Certificate: Full Stack (Full-Time)

Programming Fundamentals

In this course, you will study foundational concepts and software development skills necessary to learn any programming language. You will be introduced to topics including setting up the development environment, Git, GitHub, and the command line interface. You will also explore the importance of version control and the strengths of version control in your first few projects.

Front End Development

In this course, you will explore front-end development including programming fundamentals needed to design, layout, and add interactivity to a front-end application. You will be introduced to HTML, CSS, advanced JavaScript, DOM manipulation, and API integration. These topics include how coding languages are used in web development and how one uses the programming elements on a web page to change them or create new ones. You will be expected to build a portfolio project through a hands-on project sprint.

Database & Node.js Back End

In this course, you will study the foundation for back-end development. You will be introduced to tools such as databases (SQL and NoSQL), Express, and Node.js. You will study database basics, including creating a database, requesting data through queries, and how data is added, edited, and removed. You will explore how databases are tied to a web page to verify and authenticate users as well as retrieve specific user information.

React Framework & Redux

In this course, you will study methods for solving complex problems and building full-stack web applications with JavaScript frameworks React and Redux. You will be expected to build a Capstone Project, a true culmination of all that you’ve studied.
